Solar Insights Pty Ltd ("Solar Insights", "we", "us") operates solarinsights.com.au. We are committed to handling your personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). This policy explains what we collect, why, and who we share it with.
1. What we collect
We collect personal information you choose to give us through forms on this site:
- Quote request form: your name, email address, mobile number, postcode, street address, and details about your property (house type, roof type, existing solar).
- Contact form: your name, email address, and message.
- Newsletter signup: your email address.
We also automatically collect limited technical information when you visit: pages viewed, approximate location derived from your IP address (state level), device and browser type, and referral source. See sections 4 and 5.
2. How we use your information — including contact by email
If you submit your details through any form on this website, you consent to us contacting you by email (and, for quote requests, by phone or SMS) about your enquiry, your quote request, or related solar information. Newsletter subscribers receive our email updates and can unsubscribe at any time via the link in every email.
3. Sharing with solar installers
When you submit a quote request, we share your details with a small number of accredited solar installers that service your area, so they can prepare and provide your quote. Those installers may contact you directly by phone or email — only where relevant to your request and only as required to provide the service you asked for. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share quote-request details with installers for any purpose other than fulfilling your request.
4. Third-party services we use
- Form processing: our forms are processed by Formspree and our newsletter by Brevo. Your submissions pass through their systems.
- Analytics: we use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used (pages visited, traffic sources, interactions with content and advertising). Google Analytics uses cookies.
- Location detection: we use an IP-geolocation service (ipapi.co) to estimate which Australian state you are visiting from, so we can show advertising relevant to your state. Your IP address is sent to that service for this purpose; the result is stored only in your browser for the duration of your visit.
- Hosting: the site is hosted on Amazon Web Services infrastructure, which keeps standard access logs.
Some of these providers store data outside Australia (typically in the United States). By using this site you acknowledge that limited personal information may be processed overseas by these providers under their own privacy safeguards.
5. Cookies and advertising
We use cookies and similar browser storage for analytics and to remember your approximate state for advertising display. This site displays banner advertising from energy retailers and solar installers; clicking a banner takes you to the advertiser's website, which operates under its own privacy policy. We measure banner impressions and clicks in aggregate — this measurement does not identify you personally.
6. Storage and security
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access. Form submissions are transmitted over encrypted connections. We retain personal information only as long as needed for the purposes above or as required by law.
7. Access, correction, and deletion
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of the personal information we hold about you at any time. Email us at brendan@solarinsights.com.au and we will respond within a reasonable period.
8. Complaints
If you believe we have mishandled your personal information, please contact us first at brendan@solarinsights.com.au so we can try to resolve it. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last Updated" date at the top reflects the current version. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
